This is a little story about how I fell in love with a song called “No More Love”.
I initially had no plans to release "No more love". It was a song I wrote for a tv/film brief about the ending of a long-term relationship, goodbyes, letting go, and acceptance. At the time I had begun to delve pretty deeply into songwriting for tv and film but when I wrote it, I was also in the midst of finalizing a major 10 song project I had been working on for two years (those are the bulk of songs I released between 2018 and 2020). When I was in the process of readying my single “What if” in 2020, the mix engineer Jamie Lendino surprised me with an updated mix of No More Love. It was at that point, around May or June, that I decided I wanted NML to be one of the next songs in line to release.
“No more love” was an effortless song to write. Some songs I write and re-write, cut sections, change chord progressions, and revise lyrics over and over. Sometimes there is little left of the original song idea by the time I am finished with a song. Sometimes I scrap songs completely because they never quite feel right. But for this one, I just walked right into a wave of inspiration and it scooped me up and connected me to the create universe. It was a song that wrote itself and I was more of a passenger along for the ride while my muse took the wheel. It is an amazing experience to have a song so easily flow through you. I reached out to friend, fellow musician, and producer Allison Tartalia to see if she would produce it. I tracked the vocals and piano parts in my studio. We hired a guitar player because the reference song for the brief was guitar based. And she added her magic including a stunning steel guitar part that provides a poignant answer to my vocal story. The end result exceeded my hopes and expectations. I fell in love with it. Even though my initial intention hadn’t been to release this alongside my other artist songs, it complements my discography beautifully with its feel of heaven meets heartbreak.
So that is the story of how I fell in love with a song called “No more love” and I hope you fall in love with it as much as I have.
